Never Trust A Rainbow by ~thezimchick:iconthezimchick:

When the pit-pit-patter of raindrops starts
And the sun rays pierce them straight through their hearts
The light is bent into multiple bands
Reaching their way across dampening lands
We gape and we gawk at the incredible sight
This optical illusion, this trick of the light
The arch in the sky gives us the need
To beg the question: where does it lead?
With stars in our eyes we follow the hues
Trek over the greens and under the blues
To those golden rewards that await us at the end
Stretching further away as we climb and descend
Wearied with scratches and scabs, stubborn we stumble
The hourglass draining as the colors crumble
The thunderheads gather, and the arch disappears
The wind rushes in, the sky releases it's tears
But as the lightning strikes fade, the lesson remains
Never trust a rainbow to lead away from the rain

I'm trying to flex my writing hand here, so please bear with me.

Anyway, I found some inspiration in the strangest of places. My mom recently got a job teaching at a private school which specializes in helping autistic children. Ever since then, she's been digging around the house to pull up old educational games and toys to help her out in the classroom. This past weekend she ran across an old magnetic poetry book which had the strangest of poems spelled out in the back. She asked if I had written it, which I hadn't, however several of the lines from the poem struck me as inspirational. One line in particular was: "Never play with rainbows". While the poem was generally nonsensical and innocent, I felt like putting a dark twist on the line, hence: "Never Trust A Rainbow". Final product? A poem about placing trust in broken promises. Ta da!

I love it. It's actually really good, and I like the symbolisms and the angle of broken promises. Over all, really interesting for a "flex" I can't wait to see what's comming out next

This really chimes with me, and I think it is an excellent metaphor.

It makes me think of when I moved to Illinois thinking it would be a new beginning after having a terrible breakup back in Alabama. Then, I wound up involved in a long-distance relationship with someone I love dearly back in Alabama, and the strain became too much after two years of being stuck here. All because I followed a rainbow...straight into rain.

I'm really glad to have read this one, and I hope you'll be back soon so I might see more new work from you.
